L’Oréal’s economic footprint in the UK : more than 33 000 jobs

Publié par :

According to the modelization conducted by Asterès, the total footprint of L’Oréal in the British economy reaches 33,467 full-time equivalent jobs (FTEs), equal to all the jobs in a city like Hinckley.

This total footprint is divided in:

–  2,691 direct jobs FTEs (people directly employed by L’Oréal in United Kingdom)

– 30,776 jobs FTEs generated in the British economy by the cascading effects of L’Oréal (of which 7,469 jobs generated by the spending of the company and 23,307 jobs generated by the selling of its products).

As a consequence, 1 job directly created by L’Oréal United Kingdom generates 11.4 additional jobs in the rest of the British economy.

Moreover, the total footprint of L’Oreal in the British economy (direct activity of L’Oréal and cascading effects for other businesses in the country) represents around 5.3 billion pounds in sales and 894 million pounds in taxes and social revenues. The cascading effects of L’Oréal in terms of value added amounts to around 1.8 billion pounds for other businesses in the British economy. These cascading effects benefits mostly the trade (wholesale and retail) and the “other service” sector (due to the importance of sales by professional hairdressers) and the publishing, audiovisual and broadcasting (due to expenditures in advertising) sectors.

Only in the high streets, the selling of L’Oréal products generates a footprint of more than 5,600 FTE.
