Competition and Market Structures of Digital Platforms
French economists Pierre Bentata and Nicolas Bouzou published a note on the economics of digital platforms. This note contributes to the debate on regulation by providing a strictly economic analysis of the state of competition and the structure of the markets on which the digital platforms operate.
First, the note returns to the question of the platforms’size, an insufficient criterion according to the authors to assess market competition. The specific regulation of platforms is then studied to show that it poses a risk to consumer welfare, competition and innovation.
The complete note is available here.
